Throwing $$ at Learning

Can education be bought? The answer from Hartford, CT is NO. The city spends > $400 million yearly on education ($17,260 per student) yet nearly 30% of its students don’t graduate from high school on time, 18% of students in grades 3-8 test at age-appropriate levels in math, and only 25% do so in reading. Hartford is only one example. The U.S. crams more money per student into education than anyone, yet we are still in the middle of the pack in student achievement. Where is all our taxpayer $$ going?
